<p>Magnesium dapat diperoleh dari alam dalam  <strong>karnalit</strong>, KCl. MgCl<sub>2</sub>.6H<sub>2</sub>O dan <strong>magnesit</strong>, MgCO<sub>3</sub>.  Logam magnesium dibuat dengan cara<span style="text-decoration:underline;"> elektrolisis leburan</span> senyawa  kloridanya (MgCl<sub>2</sub>), dan untuk menurunkan titik lelehnya serta  untuk menghemat pemakaian listrik, senyawa halida (KCl) perlu  ditambahkan. Proses ini disebut dengan <em><strong>proses Downs</strong></em>. Sebagai anoda  digunakan grafit, sedangkan katodanya dari baja. Pada proses ini  dihasilkan juga gas klorin sebagai hasil sampingan.</p>
<p>Pembawa muatan Mg<sup>2+</sup> ←   MgCl<sub>2 </sub>→   Pembawa  muatan Cl<sup>-</sup></p>
<p>Katoda : Mg <sup>2+</sup> (<em>aq</em>) + 2e  →   Mg <sub>(s)</sub></p>
<p>Anoda : 2Cl<sup>-</sup> (<em>aq</em>)   →   2Cl* + 2e</p>
<p>2Cl*  →  Cl<sub>2 (g)</sub></p>
<p>Setelah didapatkan logam Mg, maka proses selanjutnya adalah membuat  Mg(OH)<sub>2</sub> dengan proses Castner-Kellner. Pada proses ini  larutan MgCl<sub>2 </sub>jenuh dialirkan dalam sel (seperti pada gambar)  pada arah yang sama dengan aliran raksa sebagai katoda, sedangkan  anodanya berupa balok grafit. Larutan MgCl<sub>2</sub> jenuh ini didapat  dalam air laut dan di Stassfurt (German) sebagi deposit karnalit, KCl.  MgCl<sub>2</sub>.6H<sub>2</sub>O. Magnesium klorida diperoleh dari bahan  dasar karnalit dengan cara kristalisasi bertingkat. MgCl<sub>2 </sub>dapat  juga diperoleh dari logam Mg yang telah dibuat direaksikan denga HCl  yang merupakan asam non-oksidator dengan persamaan reaksi sebagai  berikut:</p>
<p>Mg(<em>aq</em>) + HCl(<em>aq</em>)   →   MgCl<sub>2</sub>(<em>aq</em>)  + H<sub>2</sub>(<em>g</em>)</p>
<p>Pada elektrolisis, gas klorin dilepas pada anoda dan magnesium pada  katoda yang larut dalam raksa dan dikeluarkan dari sel. Amalgam  magnesium dilewatkan ke air dimana magnesium bereaksi membentuk 50%  larutan MgCl<sub>2</sub> dengan kemurnian tinggi, dan reaksi dikatalis  oleh adanya besi. Kemudian raksa dikembalikan ke dalam sel. Sehingga  hasil dari proses ini adalah magnesium klorida, klorin, dan hidrogen.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Waktu pelaksanaan Ujian Nasional (UN) dipercepat menjadi minggu ketiga Maret 2010. Hal ini dikarenakan UN 2010 akan dilaksanakan <span style="color:#ff0000;"><strong>2 kali</strong> </span>yakni terdiri dari <strong>UN utama</strong> dan <strong>UN ulangan</strong>. Para siswa yang belum lulus pada UN utama, diperbolehkan untuk mengikuti pada UN tahap kedua (enak ya..diberi kesempatan 2 kali,, tapi siapa yang mau??)..
